Attention\u00a0Red, White & Royal Blue\u00a0fans! There\u2019s a new update on the highly anticipated sequel.<\/p>\n

Back in\u00a0August 2023, LGBTQIA+ movie enthusiasts were treated to the film adaptation of Casey McQuiston\u2019s acclaimed novel.<\/p>\n

Directed by Matthew L\u00f3pez, the Prime Video feature follows the passionate enemies-to-lovers romance between Alex (Zakhar Perez), the son of America\u2019s first female president (Uma Thurman), and Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), a British prince.<\/p>\n

Upon its release,\u00a0Red, White & Royal Blue\u00a0received universal acclaim for its faithfulness to the source material and the electric chemistry between Zakhar Perez and Galitzine.<\/p>\n

In May, following months of fan outcry and speculation, Prime Video, L\u00f3pez and McQuiston broke the internet when they announced that a sequel was on the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, there\u2019s gonna be a sequel,\u201d the American playwright exclaimed during a fan screening.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Along For The Ride\u00a0author added, \u201cMatthew and I are writing it together. That\u2019s all we can say.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since that fateful day, fans have patiently waited for new information about the sequel.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, L\u00f3pez shared a small update about the new feature during a forthcoming panel discussion for\u00a0Deadline\u2019s Contenders TV: The Nominees.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we were starting this process, I kept saying that we\u2019ll have to succeed at this adaptation\u2026. if you feel the same way at the end, as you felt finishing the book,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no book to guide us, but what we have is Casey\u2019s original thoughts and original ideas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In the same interview, Perez expressed his excitement for the film and stepping back in to the shoes of first son Alex Claremont Diaz.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe just has an endless waterfall of optimism rushing over him at all times, and he has just nonstop positivity,\u201d he gushed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I think I\u2019m excited to bring that back to the screen. And I think [with the] state of the world right now, we could use a little bit more of that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Lopez and Perez\u2019 interview comes a few weeks after Amazon MGM Studios chief Jennifer Salke issued her own minor update about the film.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re really excited. We are into the second movie and can\u2019t wait. The creative is awesome,\u201d she revealed to\u00a0Variety.<\/p>\n

In addition to its sequel, the beloved rom-com\u00a0has continued to generate buzz due to its recent\u00a0Emmy nomination\u00a0for Outstanding Television Movie.<\/p>\n

Other films in the category include\u00a0Mr Monk\u2019s Last Case: A Monk Movie, Quiz Lady, Scoop and Unfrosted.\u00a0The winner will be announced during the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on 15 September.<\/p>\n
